I'm Jaie Arianna, holistic vocal coach and teacher.
I began studying voice at the age of 11. While some people feel that you should maintain consistency in your training, that didn't happen for me. Even in college, I had 5 different voice teachers over 5 years! I learned wonderful things from all of them, and discovered that none of them had all the answers. In fact, it wasn't until I traveled 3,000 miles that I met the teacher who would impart to me the technique that would allow me to sing all day!
What I discovered along the way was that we are so much more than just a larynx. A teacher truly has to teach the whole singer, not just the vocal apparatus. If you're having a rough day, your voice will show it. If you've got unconscious thoughts that are sabotaging you, your voice will show it. You need a vocal instructor who can work with you as a whole singer, not just a larynx.
That's me. I got out of music school, and sounded like a lot of other sopranos. I was singing with my full voice all the time, and I still had holes in my technique. The way "Support" was taught to me was just plain WRONG! But what really bothered me is that I didn't like what I heard on recordings of myself.
I spent a few years exploring my voice and giving myself permission to let my sound be anything but pretty. It was hard, at first, but I eventually relaxed into it. I embraced the 'ugly' sounds and got curious about what was causing the 'problems'. I had to handle some pretty deep things in order to get free and clear.
Now, I have people asking me to sing. I perform 4-5 times a month, and am putting together a musical theater review. Last week, I sang my one-hour set, non-stop singing, TWICE, with only a 2 hour break, and my voice wasn't tired at all. I felt on top of the world!
I want to share the secrets of singing that I've learned from the dozen or more teachers that I've had over the years. I promise you'll like what you hear.
